Video glitch effects for Unity
A small pair of Unity image effects for CRT-style glitch looks: an analog effect (scanline jitter, color drift, vertical jump) and a digital one (block damage). It's for Unity devs doing retro/broken-signal aesthetics who want a drop-in post effect rather than writing the shader math themselves.
The two effects are cleanly separated into their own script+shader pairs (AnalogGlitch.cs/.shader, DigitalGlitch.cs/.shader) with custom editors, so you can read and modify one without touching the other. The shaders are small and easy to actually understand and hack on, not a black-box asset. It's a known-good, widely used reference implementation from keijiro, so the visual results match what people expect from his other Kino effects.
No package.json/UPM manifest in the tree — this predates Unity's Package Manager, so you're stuck manually copying the Assets/Kino folder or importing the committed .unitypackage binary. The effects use the classic OnRenderImage image-effect pattern, which doesn't work out of the box on URP/HDRP; anyone on a modern render pipeline needs to port it to a custom render feature. Last push was 2023-12-05 but the code and license date back to 2015 with no changelog — likely just housekeeping, not active maintenance, so don't expect bug fixes. The repo also carries an unrelated Reaktion motion-utility folder alongside the glitch code, which is dead weight if you only want the glitch effects.
