Fourth iteration of my personal website built with Gatsby
This is Brittany Chiang's personal portfolio site, built with Gatsby and styled-components. It is not a template — the author says so directly — but it's become the de facto portfolio starter for thousands of developers who fork it anyway.
The component split is clean: each resume section (hero, jobs, projects, about, contact) is its own file, icons are isolated SVG components, and theming runs through a single variables/theme file so colors and fonts change in one place. Content for jobs, featured work, and blog posts lives in markdown under content/, so updating copy doesn't mean touching JSX. There's a real accessibility nod with usePrefersReducedMotion gating the scroll-reveal animations instead of just hardcoding motion for everyone.
Gatsby is past its peak — slower builds than Vite/Next/Astro, and its maintainer momentum has clearly dropped off, so anyone adopting this in 2026 is building on a framework in decline. The author explicitly didn't design it as a starter theme, so there's no config layer: changing anything beyond text means digging through styled-components and the gatsby-node.js content pipeline. Last push was mid-2024, so expect dependency rot (Node/Gatsby plugin version mismatches) before it even builds cleanly. The pensieve blog section and tag templates are wired specifically to the author's content shape, so forking just the portfolio part and dropping the blog takes real surgery, not a flag flip.
